As the sixth entry in the Call of Duty franchise, this next game brings back developer Infinity Ward as the general in command (thank god). So, they’ve brought back Infinity Ward, and ditched Treyarch. Good decision in my view. Maybe it was the fact I bought World at War for PC, but I hate it. I’ve definitely learnt my lesson not to buy games (apart from The Sims, but that’s another story.) for the PC, as I’m just so comfortable with the solidarity of the graphics of a console, and the controller instead of a mouse and keyboard…
Anyway, back to Modern Warfare 2. Why has the choice been made to bring back Infinity Ward? Maybe it was the sheer success of CoD4, and the failure of CoD5? Personally, I think it’s going to have to be that. CoD4 was so much more successful and in my view, more of a pleasure to play.
While browsing IGN and other sites, I’ve come across some videos from E3. The first includes Robert Bowling, Community Manager for Infinity Ward (watch it
here. Make sure you watch parts 2 and 3 also). The first video shows the mission ‘Cliffhanger’. A fighter jet flies over the snowy mountains. Text appears which says: ‘Follow Captain MacTavish.’ Well, I stopped and probably thought the same as you. SOAP! I’m not mad; it’s the SAS soldier you played as in CoD4, Soap MacTavish. Notice he is now ‘Captain’, and smokes a cigarette in a Captain Price-y way. He throws his cigarette, and says ‘’Break’s over, Roach. Let’s go.’’ Is Roach the new character you are playing as, or is it a nickname (as in the insect – Cockroach)? Well here’s the answer. You now play as Sgt. Gary ‘Roach’ Sanderson, and the location is the Tian Shan Range, Kazakhstan.
So, now the sinister talk is over, you are peering over an icy cliff, (a bloody huge one, too) and you start to move across the cliffside. Your mission is to re-take (or destroy) an enemy satellite that has been captured by your enemy. In your inventory you have Ice Picks. They have the aiming/hip fire sights; so does this mean you can attack people with them? Gnarly. After climbing with the ice picks, the gun in your inventory is a Silenced ACR (with Heartbeat Sensor. WOW!) The Heartbeat Sensor is in your inventory of stuff like C4 explosives or Claymores, basically the left arrow. It flips out of the gun like a camcorder. The Sensor picks up 2 heartbeats. They are both killed silently. If you look to the left as the video ends, you see an icy runway.
Guess what. There’s more blood this time. Awesome!
So, that was part one of their analysis of the Modern Warfare 2 demo. Go watch them. I’m going to.
